What a tour costs
Tours are priced per person, and most routes are offered in three vehicle grades. The grade changes the vehicle and the price, not the stops.
| Vehicle grade | What you get | Typical price |
|---|---|---|
| Economy | A standard air-conditioned taxi van, shared with your own party | from US$50 per person |
| Intermediate | A larger or newer vehicle, more room for luggage and beach gear | from US$75 per person |
| Luxury | Private luxury vehicle, priced for the vehicle rather than the seat | from US$150 |
Entrance fees at Brimstone Hill and the Botanical Gardens are paid at the gate unless your tour says otherwise. SKN Transit does not charge you to book a tour: you reserve here and pay the operator once they confirm.
What you see on a St. Kitts island tour
The island is small enough that a half day covers the things people fly in for. These are the stops the tours above actually make.
- Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park. The UNESCO World Heritage site above Sandy Point, built by enslaved Africans for the British over roughly a century. The view reaches Saba, St. Eustatius and Nevis on a clear day.
- Romney Manor and Caribelle Batik. A seventeenth century estate with a Saman tree over 400 years old, and a working batik studio you can watch.
- Wingfield Estate. Petroglyphs carved by the Kalinago, and the remains of one of the oldest rum distilleries in the Caribbean.
- Timothy Hill overlook. The photograph everyone comes back with: the Atlantic on one side, the Caribbean on the other, and Nevis across the channel.
- Cockleshell and South Friars beaches. Where the beach tours finish, with snorkelling, jet skis and paddleboards on the water and Nevis directly across.
- Basseterre. The Circus, Independence Square and the waterfront, usually the first stop out of Port Zante.
Touring Nevis
Nevis is the quieter island and it tours differently: plantation inns, botanical gardens and hot springs rather than fortresses. The tour crosses by water taxi, so it is arranged ahead rather than picked up on the day.
Travelling over independently instead? The ferry schedule between Basseterre and Charlestown runs throughout the day, and private water taxi charters cross on your own timing.
Taking a tour on a cruise day
Most ships berth at Port Zante in Basseterre, a few minutes from the first stop on every tour here. The two hour beach run and the half day highlights tour both fit comfortably inside a standard port call.
Check which ships are in port on your date before you book: tours fill fastest when two or more ships call the same morning. Our guide to a cruise day in St. Kitts covers what fits in the time you have.
Prefer to explore on your own?
A tour is the easy way to see the island in half a day. If you would rather set your own pace, rent a car and drive it yourself, or book a fixed-price airport transfer to get to your hotel first. Our guide to getting around St. Kitts and Nevis compares every option.
Tour questions
How much does an island tour cost in St. Kitts?
Tours start at US$50 per person (about EC$135), and the full island tours run to US$100. Most tours quote three vehicle grades, so an economy seat and a luxury vehicle on the same route are priced differently. You see the grade before you book.
How long is a St. Kitts island tour?
Between two hours and a full day. The beach runs are about two hours, the half-day highlights tours take four to five, and the full island tour with a beach finish fills a day. Pick the length that fits your ship time or your flight.
Can I do an island tour on a cruise day?
Yes, and it is what most of these tours are built around. Port Zante is a short drive from the first stop, and the two hour and half day tours are timed to get you back well before all aboard. Check your ship's time in port first.
Do the tours go to Brimstone Hill Fortress?
The Best of St. Kitts and the Full Island tours both include Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, the UNESCO World Heritage site above Sandy Point. The shorter beach and Romney Manor tours do not, so check the stop list on the tour you pick.
Is there a tour of Nevis?
Yes. The Island of Nevis Tour crosses by water taxi and covers Cottle Church, Golden Rock Inn, Montpelier Plantation, the Botanical Gardens and the hot springs. It is arranged in advance rather than booked on the day, so give it notice.
How far in advance should I book a tour?
Book at least 24 hours ahead, and earlier on a cruise day or a public holiday. Tours are confirmed by the operator, and the vehicles that seat larger groups go first when several ships are in port.
Do tours include hotel or port pickup?
Yes. Pickup is arranged with the operator when your tour is confirmed, from your hotel, your villa or the cruise pier at Port Zante. Tell them where you are staying when you book.
Do I pay SKN Transit or the tour operator?
The operator. SKN Transit shows you the tours, the stops and the price up front and passes your booking on. St. Kitts Nevis Luxury Taxi & Tours confirms the vehicle and takes payment directly.
